London, Christmas!

De dag begon al vroeg, 7u! De reden: We hadden een hotel geboekt inclusief ontbijt, dus moest het ontbijt er ook maar komen, en als Nederlander ben je dan snel genoeg uit je bed om een gratis vorkje mee te prikken. Na de traditionele English Breakfast (Scrambled eggs, gewelde tomaten, witte bonen in de welbekende tomatensaus, een heuse sausage en toast) gingen Little Sas en Prinses Mark, ja, sommigen noemen ons écht zo, op de koffie bij HKH Queen Elizabeth. En er stond wat voor ons klaar. Guards, een fanfare, politie te paard, wachters te paard, duizenden bezoekers en de Queen was zelf ook aanwezig, getuige de Engelse vlag die pronkte boven het bordes, een teken dat ze er zelf ook is. De wisseling van de wacht begon rond 11u15 en na drie kwartier hetzelfde Jingle Bells deuntje te hebben aangehoord was het tijd om de thee opzij te zetten en door te lopen naar Harrods. Een kleine tegenvaller volgde, want Harrods was DICHT. Eenmaal weer in het hotel aangekomen sloeg de moeheid eigenlijk meteen toe. Na 3 dagen lopen, slecht slapen, weinig slapen, veel gezelligheid moesten de luikjes toch écht even dicht. Behalve bij Mark, want die kan al nooit goed slapen, laat staan in een hotel waarvan de bedden iets te hard zijn. Sassiefriemel daarentegen sliep als een roosje. Haar ademhaling rustig heen en weer wiegend, af en toe een trap in de lucht (waarom ze dat doet, géén idee…) en netjes om 16u20 weer opgestaan om naar het hoogtepunt van de dag (en van ondergetekende: De reis) te …
